Our Menu

We'll have a pretty simple menu because really, who has time to eat things they can't even pronounce? We're from the south and if you don't have a good recipe for bbq, potato salad, or peach cobbler, you don't know what you're missing.

The Entrée:

Smoked Boston Butt - Sliced

Sweet and Spicy Pulled Pork Sandwiches

The Sides:

Baked Beans

Potato Salad

The Dessert Bar:

Peach Cobbler

Banana Pudding

Pound Cake

Red Velvet Cupcakes
 with chopped nuts

Brownies

Drinks:

Sweet Tea

Pink Lemonade

Pre Reception Refreshments

 Crackers

Water

We decided on this menu based on the fact that we actually like these foods, they're familiar and well liked, it's affordable and it fits our Southern theme. For all intensive purposes, this will be our menu unless I change my mind about the desserts...again.

Wedding Style: Hair Inspiration

So the invitations have been finished for two whole days now and they are still sitting at home on the printer. My intentions are to get them to the post office in Brookfield this Saturday morning and hand deliver a few to close friends and family. Now that they're done, I can breathe a little. Instead of diving right into the next project, I'm just going to take a day or two to do nothing. And that's okay because I deserve it.

But drooling over pretty wedding hair styles doesn't fall into the "project" category so that's exactly what I've been doing...

Here's what's been catching my eye lately:

Entertaining: The Kid Edition

It didn't take a whole lot of consideration for me to decide that I needed to provide the kids with something to keep them entertained. It wasn't an original priority but it quickly became one when I realized I didn't want to spend my wedding day telling kids to go play, or find something to do.

I'm not sure how many children are actually coming but 18 were invited so that's a pretty big number if they all come. If the children aren't happy and occupied, it's going to be awfully hard for the adults to enjoy themselves. If my guest aren't happy, then I'm not HAPPY! And I'm pretty sure that I'm supposed to happy on my wedding day.

For every problem, there is a Pinterest solution. If you know me at all, you know that's the first place I went looking and I wasn't disappointed. AT ALL!

And the best part is that they're not just for kids!

Corn Hole

Ring Toss

Hula Hoop Contest

I'm also going to have a basket filled with other things for them do such as bubbles, sparklers, glow bracelets, and a few photo props with a  disposable camera.

If anyone has a game of horseshoes they'd like to let me borrow, please let me know!

Save the Dates

They're HERE!

I designed them myself using one of our engagement pictures and Photoshop and had them printed using Vista Print! I'M SO IN LOVE WITH THEM!!! For a while, I was scared I wouldn't be. I have big ideas, but they usually turn into a hot mess when I try to execute them. I should probably give myself more credit. They turned out AMAZING!

Game Day in Dawg Country

Okay, so I think I picked a perfect date for this wedding thing. It's a Saturday, it's in October - my favorite month and time of the year. It's not too hot and not too cold. It's also the driest month of the year. That's awesome for my curly hair and my photographer.

It's my birthday month, Don's birthday month, Logan's (my godson) birthday month, boiled peanuts, hoodies, bonfires, Halloween (my favorite holiday) and FOOTBALL!

Come college football season, UGA football is religion at our house! Last year, I was in a wedding on a Saturday in November, the same day as The Georgia/Florida game. It's the biggest game of the year for us.I was so bummed to be missing the game that I seriously thought about not going/being apart of the wedding. I did attend/participate but I was sour and I pouted and left as soon as the ceremony was over. I made it home in 13 minutes and was there at the beginning of the 3rd quarter and I watched it in my bridesmaid dress. We won! I had bragging rights over my best friend for whole year (AGAIN) and I do not miss an opportunity to let her know that My Dawgs are better than her Gators. Sorry I'm not sorry, Meagan.

So, here we are again, football season quickly approaching and I'm planning a wedding...on a Saturday. Only, this time it won't be so bad, because we can always sneak away to watch a few minutes of the game together, or listen to it on the radio.

We lost to Vanderbilt last year. And this year, we're playing them on October 4th. We'll be at home Between the Hedges and the new quarterback, Hutson Mason, was looking pretty good at the end of last season so...Here's to hoping for a big UGA win on our wedding day!

And to show my team spirit - THIS! SO MUCH YES!

At the beginning of September, I'm sending my thigh measurements to my Aunt Buffy so she can make my garter. She wanted to make mine since she made Meagan's and I loved the idea of having a custom garter and I love that it's from a family member and not Jane Doe on etsy.com.

Fine China

Like every couple, we want our wedding to reflect us. And if you know us, you know that we are not flashy people. We're simple people. We like simple things and it's very important to Don and I that this wedding and reception not feel like a huge production. We're not "putting on" for anyone. If there's one thing he's taught me, it's not to give a shit what anyone thinks.

With that being said, I want it to be very clear that our reception will be casual. We love family get togethers and that's what we want it to feel like. When I think of family get togethers, I think about sitting in my Grandma's yard, everyone talking and laughing and eating. With our casual "feel" and casual "menu", I've decided it's only fitting to eat off of paper plates. And drink out of plastic glasses, and use plastic forks.

Seriously!

Let that sink in for minute or two.

Am I crazy? BAT SHIT.

I just don't see wasting time with real dishes for someone to be in charge of getting, and not breaking, and keeping clean, and washing when it's over. NO THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

And since our guest list is mostly family and close friends, I don't think it's a big deal. I'm sure they all eat off of paper plates at get togethers so I'm sure they won't mind one bit.

Not that I need to justify this to anyone because it is my wedding after all, I just thought I would put this out there because I just know that someone somewhere is going to have something to say.

If you're too good for paper plates, please don't come.

Uncle Wayne's Coming!

I've been working on the blog design for what seems like forever. I'm definitely NOT a graphic designer but I finally feel like I got it right! It's adorable and it has exactly the information I want people to have, nothing more, nothing less. NO stuffy, boring, run of the mill, premade wedding site for me. I resisted making it match the theme and colors of the wedding because I want most aspects of the wedding to be a surprise.

I haven't gotten any of my wedding projects finished but I did get Sarah and AJ's dresses ordered!  They're scheduled to be here by June 8th. It seems so far away but I know the time will fly. Oh, and I got TWO $20 Shutterfly gift cards when I ordered them - SCORE!!!  I'll definitely be using those to print out pictures after the wedding.

I also made the deposit for the chairs. I know it's not the most exciting progress but it had to be done.

Don's Uncle Wayne will be here in two weeks. He lives in one of the Carolinas and I've only been around him two or three times and they were short visits. He's agreed to come down in October and marry us. (He's a Pastor) I'll probably spend the next two weeks obsessing over what to say when he ask me about my feelings on marriage or why I want to marry Don. I mean I know why but I'm not one to pour out the deepest part of my heart to people I barely know, or anyone for that matter. I'd rather keep those intimate details all to myself. I am excited about him being the one to marry us though because it's important to Don. It's important to us to keep the ceremony traditional and personal. I know Uncle Wayne won't disappoint.

There are several little piles of different project supplies in different corners of the house. I'm really ready for them to be gone and have something to show for weeks worth of mess. As much as I would like to get some of the projects finished this weekend, I'm making NO PROMISES! I can promise that if it's nice outside like they're predicting, I will be outside enjoying the sunshine and getting the pool ready!

Dresses, and Rings, and Jars, Oh My!

Well, it was an amazing weekend! I spent Saturday in Albany with Sarah and AJ. Our first stop was David's bridal so Sarah could try on the dress we were considering...

WE LOVED IT!

And although Meagan is in Maryland, she tried it on too!

None of them were probably expecting me to post these pictures, but I think they're all beautiful!
I won't be sharing color details at this time. Sorry; that has to be a surprise!

We also found these treasures at Goodwill...

Mini mason jar salt and pepper shakers. Strangely, they came 3 to a set and I bought 2 sets for $1.21 each. Goodwill for the WIN!

The one thing I was most excited about was finding my wedding band. I tried a few on that I found online. They were REALLY pretty but I think I knew immediately when I saw this particular ring on my finger. In fact, it was the very first one and it was not one that I would have immediately picked out. It's absolutely gorgeous! I.CANNOT.WAIT for it to get here so I can see it again in person!
